Europe’s cultural heritage and national histories have been shaped by unique moments of change. As Europe marks the millennium of the crowning of the first Polish King, it is worth reflecting on the history of central and eastern Europe, and what the foundation of a Polish Kingdom has meant for the region. By looking at the last 1000 years of regional history, what trends can be observed, and what lessons learnt about the way Europe functions today.
